Thermal relays are not used alone. Used with fuses or contactors. While fuses provide protection at a certain current value, thermal relays provide protection in the adjusted current region. If we consider the motors in which it is generally used, thermal relays should break the circuit at the allowable point in case of overcurrent, except for the currents drawn at the time of starting current, overload starting or braking.
